Nearly 400,000 african americans that were drafted, about only 42,000 served over seas as combat troops. All of african american soldiers were all watched by all white officers. They encountered discrimination and prejudice in the army. Many of them fought with distinction. They would win praise from the french commander, Marshal Henri Petain & the united states commander, General John Pershing​.
